  • G-4500-2G Quad-band M2M Mini-Programmable Automation Controller

Project Requirements

A major cryogenic liquefied gas supplier in Romania has storage tanks installed at their customers’ premises all over the country. The supplier company wants to be able to see in real-time the remaining stock of product in their tanks, in order to improve the supply chain. Data transmission will be made via GPRS. In addition, SMS alarms should be sent when a fault occurs.

Cryogenic liquefied gases are stored in special pressurised storage tanks at very low temperatures, down to -180°C, for example liquefied nitrogen, oxygen, argon, etc. Tank content measurement is made by a specially calibrated differential pressure transmitter with 4..20 mA output signal which will be fed in to the Analog Input of the M2M controller.

ICP DAS Solution

G-4500-2G programmable controllers for M2M applications were an optimal and cost-effective choice as a 2-in-1 solution for both data acquisition and data transmission. The custom built firmware sends data reliably to the central server and in addition it uses an SD card to store data in case the connection is broken and automatically re-sends the backed up data as soon as the connection is restored. The data connection is secured by strong encryption. SMS alarms are sent to predefined cell phone numbers. The custom firmware of G-4500-2G controller also supports reconfiguration via SMS remotely.

The X Monitor SCADA software package fully supports the G-4500-2G programmable controllers. The HMI is very straightforward, tank contents are displayed in real-time on the HMI workstation and the operator has the ability to create charts and table reports easily. The HMI can also be accessed remotely via LAN or Internet.
