Introduction:

Some applications require the HMI / SCADA system in the control center to communicate with remote PACs (Programmable Automation Controller) via the Internet to monitor or collect data (e.g., temperature, humidity, voltage, current, etc.) in the application field for further analysis. And then convert them into useful information or a file. In the past, we usually delivered these application data via wired network where each PAC required a public IP on the Internet. However it’s getting more difficult to get a public IP nowadays. You need to pay much more money for it if each PAC requires a public IP. In addition, some application field are distributed in the remote districts where are hard-to-reach or unattended. The cost of wiring for such a long-distance communication is too expensive. For some harsh environments that unable to set up the remote wiring, the engineer must take a long-distance driving in order to get data or do some software maintenance. This spends too much time and it is so inconvenient and so inefficient.

Therefore, ICP DAS releases the Win‐GRAF intelligent 3G solution. It is using 3G wireless communication way which has the advantage of a wider signal range, easy to install, and lower building cost. The devices can process data efficiently without the limit of the geography or conditions as long as 3G signal exists. The main features of this Win-GRAF solution is that the PAC can remotely connect to a PC which has a public IP and installed the WG-Communication-Server via 3G network (or the Internet), and then the user can use his own PC/laptop (with WG-Communication-Client) to log in to the Server to access and maintain the PAC remotely at home or in the office.

Introduction of Functions:

• Remotely Monitor and Control

The Win-GRAF intelligent 3G solution supports the HMI/SCADA PC (e.g., InduSoft) to remotely monitor and control the data in several Win-GRAF PACs by connecting to the WG-Communication-Server (with wired or wireless network).



 

• Remotely Maintain the PAC’s Application

If customers want to update or modify the Win-GRAF application which is distributed in many remote districts, the engineer can immediately use his own PC/Laptop (with WG-Communication-Client) to log in to the Server to maintain programs at home or in the office.




 

• Remotly Update the Win-GRAF PAC Driver

If the user wants to add a new application, the WG-Communication-Client provides an easy way to update the Win-GRAF PAC driver manually and remotely by simply connecting to the Server.



 

• Remotely Operating even if no Wired Network at the Workplace

The user can buy a 3G Router for achieving remote operations in a remote area where unable to set up wired network. Only one 3G Router (plus a SIM card) is required even if there are two or more PAC at the same workplace.


 

• Security

Two protection schemes (PAC / Server / Client) are provided
(1) Log in with username/password (max. 32 char)
(2) Using a User-Key which is generated by the Server, and then send it to the authorized user.
     This User-Key can be updated anytime if there is a security issue.



 

• The PAC can Send a file to the Server Actively

If the workplace is hard-to-reach or unattended, the PAC can periodically send data or a file to the control center via 3G wireless network (or wired network).
